One thing about marketing that no one tells you: it’s kind of like dating.
You can’t just slide into someone’s inbox with “Hey, how you doin’” and expect them to fall in love with your brand. Ads, emails, social media—they’re great, but only if there’s a connection behind them.
Without that chemistry, you’re just another bad pickup line in a crowded bar.
That’s why I’m starting my year differently: 30 conversations with 30 people.
No hard sales. No awkward small talk. Instead, real conversation of listening, learning, and seeing where I can bring value. So far, I’ve had four, and here’s what I’m already noticing:
1. The best insights come from the simplest questions.
“What’s your biggest challenge right now?” has sparked some great conversation. People are carrying problems they don’t even realize you can help solve.
2. Generosity builds trust.
Sharing a resource, an introduction, or even just a word of encouragement opens doors in ways no automated email ever will.
3. People don’t remember your pitch—they remember how you showed up.
Don’t underestimate the power in being present, curious, and helpful.
You can have the best strategy in the world, but if no one cares, it doesn’t matter. Grounding your marketing activities in relationships is what makes everything else work.
Today’s Step Forward.
I’m walking the walk and having (at least) 26 more coffees over the next 4 weeks to connect with curious, driven people. No pitches, no strings. I’m looking for conversation to share ideas, connections, or insights that might move your business forward. Let’s see what one coffee could lead to. Book here.
Onward and upward.
